Sheryl McFarlane

P5080197Although Sheryl McFarlane was born in Ontario, she grew up in Arizona playing baseball and climbing cotton wood trees. She gave up Arizona for love and the wild weather of the West Coast more than 30 years ago. Her passion for the west coast has inspired more than a dozen books for kids and teens including her multi-award winning Waiting for the Whales and best selling Jessie’s Island. The Smell of Paint, her first young adult novel, won the Moonbeam Award for Young Adult Fiction in the U. S and was a Best Books of Year selection in Canada. Sheryl is a teacher, book reviewer, blogger and freelance editor.  She has organized several children’s book festivals, toured extensively, coordinated Children’s Book Week tours for Canadian Children’s Book Week and served on multiple award committees including the 2013 BC Book Prizes Jury.  When Sheryl isn’t working on a new book, she stocks a free mini-library for neighbors and friends, kayaks, walks her dog Ruby, and helps run a community youth baseball umpire program.
